Choosing Your Diamond Ring Setting

The setting decides how a stone catches light and how the ring wears day to day. 9ct, 14ct or 18ct — Which Gold for a Diamond Ring?

9ct gold is 37.5% pure and the hardest of the three, which makes it the practical choice for a ring worn every day without being removed. 14ct gold at 58.5% purity balances warmth of colour against durability. 18ct gold is 75% pure, noticeably richer in tone and the traditional metal for fine diamond rings — softer, so better suited to occasion wear or to bezel settings that protect the stone. All three are purity stamped and all three are hypoallergenic, because the irritation people blame on gold almost always comes from the nickel in plated jewellery.

Natural or Lab Grown?

A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically identical to a mined one — same carbon lattice, same hardness, same fire. The difference is origin and price: lab grown typically costs substantially less per carat, which buys you a larger or cleaner stone for the same budget. Natural diamonds carry the geological rarity and the resale market that comes with it. Neither is a compromise; they answer different priorities.

Can a diamond eternity ring be resized?
A half eternity ring can usually be resized, because the back of the band is plain gold. A full eternity ring has stones all the way round and generally cannot be — which is why we recommend confirming your size before ordering a full eternity. What carat diamond should I buy?
Carat is weight, not size, and cut quality affects how large a stone looks far more than weight alone. For everyday wear, 0.10ct to 0.30ct sits comfortably and catches light without snagging. For an engagement solitaire, 0.50ct and above gives noticeable presence.
Is 9ct gold good enough for a diamond ring?

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Will my diamond ring have a purity stamp?

How do I clean a diamond ring at home?
Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush along the underside of the setting. Most of the dullness people notice is grease and skin oil trapped beneath the stone, not damage to the diamond.
